Only 30 days late...

I meant to post something right after 100's night but some how now we're sitting at 70 days and there's still no post from me. Sometimes how crazy life gets amazes me.

Now that the holidays and all are up we're working feverishly to wrap up strings for the wedding.

Stay tuned for registry info and invitation shipment. They're almost done, just a lot of licking to be done. If only they tasted like chocolate...

Planning Trip

So after a whirlwind of travel we're finally home with time to breathe. We got tons of stuff done over the last week. Table clothes, food, rehearsal dinner, cake (finalized the order with a sweet platter), and tons of other stuff.

It was a blast being back in TX (never thought I would say that).

The Invitation Innovation

Well, folks... after a flurry of fonts, rulers, scissors, and scrap paper, we've finally drawn-up our blueprints for the invitations. A quick trip to the printers (where we will attempt to relay our master plan) and a little elbow grease and we'll be off and running... with scissors again! Hahahahaa... but don't worry, we'll be careful ;) We're mighty happy with our invitation innovation though... think it represents us well :)

-Choi

P.S. If there's anyone who should be awarded a metal for putting up with my OCD, it would be Adam. Who else would humor my insistence that there's actually a visible difference between the 15 shades of white the paper came in.

P.S.S. Don't laugh too hard at the picture we've decided to include ;)

Invitation Paper

We went to mother of all paper products store. If it is a type of paper this place had it. Kind of amazing and a compliment to the glories of capitalism!!

We came home with all the supplies for making some super sweet Texas shaped burnt orange invitations... hehehe not...

Actually they're very beautiful and very artistic since my amazing fiancee picked out the stuff... you'll want to frame it.

Mid-point

So we realized this week that we are half way through our engagement. It was kind of a wake up call considering that we still have a lot to do. Menus to pick... announcements to pick... djs to find... ceremony to plan...

We also went to Heidi and Joe's wedding this week. It was really beautiful and fun. Much congrats to them. Now, other than Nessa's wedding who cut in line, we're next in line. Dust off the dancing shoes and get ready to celebrate.

Premarrital Counseling

So once again we've dropped the stick and haven't posted in over a month.

Nothing much as developed though. I have a strong belief that Choi has her dress... but she won't come out and tell me. I started looking for fabric for my party shirt, but, alas, there was nothing good at the fabric store.

The biggest thing in the past month would be that we started our counseling finally. We've only been to one session so far but the books and 'homeworks' look promising. I guess its the moment of true, so to speak, for whether we're compatible. bumbumbum.

Hope all is well with everyone. 167 days until the big day.

Adam

p.s. We're going dancing tonight!!!! WOOWOOO, that's premarrital counseling of another kind

Good Cake Deserves It's Own Post

We were armed with nothing but two forks... 11 slices of cake later we made what was perhaps the most difficult decision of Adam's life ;) Drumroll, please... The winner of this weekend's Wedding Cake Tasting Frenzy is... RED VELVET W/ CREAM CHEESE FROSTING! This cake will be coming to you directly from Round Rock's very proudly owned and operated Round Rock Bakery. Locally famous for their yummy, orange-hued donuts, we discovered their exceptional tastiness and outstanding customer service extend beyond their one-holed wonders. Actually, the decision was quite easy ;)

"Red Velvet Cake is a beautifully textured cake with a mild chocolate flavor that just happens to be startlingly red. In order to mask its color before the cake is cut and enhance its redness once it is, Red Velvet Cake is traditionally complemented with a thick, very white frosting. " -www.texascooking.com

For those of you who find the Southern concept of red cake a little too weird (though we think you'll fall in love with it as much as we did), we're also planning to serve an Italian Cream groom's cake from the Cheesecake Factory... another "Southern Thang" ;)

Our Reception will be at the White House!!!

I sense your skepticism... ;) Okay, this WH happens to be in TX, but by all Spanish-speaking accounts, "Casa Blanca" really does mean "white house"... ;)

As Adam mentioned in a previous blog, Casa Blanca is a gorgeously remodeled house located a mere 5 minutes from my home in Round Rock. There are several things we love about it... its simple elegance, vast hardwood floors, the fact that it's set back from noisy city bustle without being completely void of civilization, the spacious side-porches, pretty landscaping, and the fact that it's located on a road called Hairy Man... bahahaha... okay, that may be our favorite.

Get your dancing shoes ready! ;)

Deep in the heart of Texas

Choi and I are making planning trip number 2.5 (because she went without me once) this weekend masked as a trip to go to some friends weddings. Don't tell them that though. Hopefully I can tag along and see Myra and Choi in the zone that is them planning stuff. I absently try to act like i know what is going on. I think we're going to get to try cake though. aaahhh the glories of getting married...

p.s. Choi and I got a sweet cutting board this weekend. Chop chop chop.

Apology

So we’ve been really horrible bloggers. The kind of bloggers that make people wonder why people spend hours upon hours blogging. We’ll try to be better from now on.

Wedding update. We’ve decided to go with la Casa Blanca. A really beautifully remodeled house in Round Rock with a large back yard and wood floor for dancing. It’ll fit wonderfully with our simple/elegant theme of the wedding.

Choi and Adam Update: I’ve moved out to Odenton. It’s almost like the good old days at the zoo when Choi and I lived down the hall from each other. I live across the street. My apartment is twice the size as my old one, I still get tired walking from one end to the other; I need to work on my endurance. The kitchen is huge and I have a whole extra bedroom. So if you’re willing to ride the train in to town, it’s even more comfortable to visit now.

Hope there’s at least someone out there that might still love us enough to read this.

We're Famous!!! Sort-of... :)

Hi All! The engagement ring we master-minded can now be found on Washington Diamond's website (click here)! And from the looks of it, it's already been copied... twice, LOL! My response was, "I'd better not run into the girl who stole our idea!" Adam's was, "Hey, look! We made other people happy!" And that, my friends, is one of the several reasons why I'm marrying him ;)

TEXAS Socks

In my quest to become a good husband to my soon-to-be Texas bride I purchased UT bike socks today!! I'm excited. Texas forever!!! They were on sale at the Crystal City Classic bike race. It was our first time watching a criterium bike race. Realized that I will probably never go that fast for that long. Oh well.

The Chapel!!!

We've reserved the chapel!!! It's fairly small and has a really nice, comfortable feeling to it :) The ceiling and stained glass are simply beautiful... the shapes and colors are amazing... eh, the subject matter in some of the glass is a little, uh, different... LOL! But hey, it just adds to it's uniqueness!
And for those of you wondering what in the world Adam is referring to in his last post... take a look at the following picture... Howdy, Davy! Nice shotgun...

Why Texas??

Many people have asked me why we're getting married in Texas... two words.... TEXAS FOREVER!!!! Top ten reasons to get married in Texas...

10) Our wedding style doesn't fit with the East Coasters
9) Centrally located in the country for everybody to travel
8) Every other state has a National Guard Bases... Texas? Military Forces Bases
7) Round Rock Donuts makes cakes
6) Its the only only place were we can have BBQ at the reception and it won't be weird
5) Polka, Line Dancing, Salsa, Two Step, Waltz... it all fits in Texas
4) The following words, "By the power vested... and the Great State of Texas..."
3) Keep Austin Weird? We're doing our part
2) Choi's Mom volunteered to be our wedding planner (we LOVE her)

1) Who wouldn't want to get married under stained glass depicting God delivering Texas to Davie Crocket (see Choi's post)

Our Engagement Story ;)

4 May 2007

I had just graduated from Intel school at Goodfellow a couple Wednesdays before... My mom and I had hopped aboard Gus Jr. and drove as fast as we could out to the East Coast, where she and Adam helped me move into my new place (many a “How do you have so much stuff??!” were uttered those few days, lol). Adam came out for dinner a couple times that week and mentioned that he'd like to take me out to dinner to celebrate my first “real Friday in DC.” It sounded great to me! Mom had a flight back to Austin that Friday evening, but before she left, said, “Now Choi, I don’t know whether anything’s going to happen tonight… if Dad or Aaron know anything, they aren’t telling me… but I want a message of some sort on my phone by the time I land!” I agreed, LOL. Adam drove out to pick me up after he finished work that afternoon. Now, I’d been getting a wee bit suspicious about this “dinner” of his, but he’d had such a stressful week at work that I’d convinced myself it wasn’t the big night. In fact, I felt a bit guilty that he felt he had to take me out at all! He picked me up after fighting traffic for over an hour… poor guy… and we drove back into town. Somewhere along the way, he asked if I’d brought my camera (his had been annihilated in a bicycle incident a few weeks before). I hadn’t, so we swung by a grocery store near his apartment to pick up a little disposable one before dropping his car off to take the metro downtown. I’d asked where we were going for dinner and he told me to an Italian restaurant we’d seen during one of my visits back in January. I didn’t think much of it… if anything, it further reinforced my assumption that this was just a nice Friday dinner. We wandered around for bit, while Adam, I found out later, pretended to be lost… “I think it’s this way…” We came upon a large marble landing called Freedom Plaza, which I immediately recognized from my trip in January (it’s a little bigger than a large lap pool with a map of DC etched into the stone plates on the ground). Now, the last time we'd been there, he’d teased me, “Now, wouldn’t this be the perfect place to propose? If I had a ring right now, I would do it...” I piped up this time, “Wait, I know where we are! We’ve been here before!” He thought this amusing, “Really?” I responded, “Yes, you were being mean about a pretend proposal.” He thought this even funnier, “The city lights look really cool, let’s take a picture," and squatted down to pull the camera out of his backpack. By now, I was really suspicious, but in all honesty, I was expecting him to actually take a picture! I was looking at all the city lights when I noticed he hadn’t pulled the camera out of his bag, but rather something else. I could hear myself audibly gasp, lol! He was on one knee, “Choi Bo, will you marry me?” It was adorable. If you can imagine a shy little five year-old asking you to marry him, this would be it. I couldn’t see his familiar grin because it was hiding behind the ring box :) but I saw the smile in his eyes. I don’t really remember exactly what happened after that… I was on a high!… but I do remember saying "yes" and noting that I’d never felt so happy in my life! He then took me, not to the Italian restaurant, but rather to the Willard Hotel (his careful research told him that every president since Pierce has stayed there) where the most romantic restaurant in DC was located—the Willard Room. And my, did it live up to its reviews! It was utterly amazing. We laughed at the apparent wait-staff prerequisite that you must speak with some form of accent. That evening, we were introduced to a rare, wild mushroom risotto appetizer that "called for a trained hunter to scour the Shenandoah Valley in search of the little mushrooms that grow in only one location in the whole world"… now, after a story like that, we just had to try it! Our waiter asked if we were celebrating anything special. We told him the good news, and after dinner, he brought us a beautiful plate of chocolate truffles, some of the yummiest cookies we've ever tasted, and small bouquet of red roses as a congratulations from the restaurant :) We were about to take a picture of the dessert plate (it had “Congratulations” written in chocolate syrup), when he offered to take one with us in it. Adam pulled out our little disposable and said, “We left our digital at home…” The waiter laughed and took our picture anyway ;) After he left, Adam leaned in and said, “Somehow, at a place like this, I felt like we needed to caveat our disposable with a ‘We left our digital at home’…” ;)

I can honestly say, it was the best and most perfect night of my life, and I can hardly wait for what’s to come!

P.S. The rare mushroom risotto was to die for :)
